Costs & Insurance
Covering Home Care Costs
Depending on the needs and medical diagnosis, home health care services may be covered by private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid, major commercial insurance, HMO, PPO, and self pay.
Medicare Reimbursement
To qualify for Medicare, a person must need part-time skilled nursing services, physicians orders, and be considered “homebound”. Homebound means that an individual is only able to leave their home for short periods of time with the help of another person or assistive device like a cane, walker, or crutches.
Medicare covers part-time skilled health services including skilled nursing care; physical, speech, and occupational therapy; medical social services; and home health aide services.
Medicare does not cover full-time nursing care at home, medications, general housekeeping services, blood transfusions, and custodial care.
All the Medicare-covered services are available on a private pay basis when a client no longer requires skilled care.
